Pala: A plus one student died after he was injured during state junior sports meet on Monday, 17 days after he was hit with a hammer in the sporting event.
The 16-year-old Afeel Johnson was undergoing treatment at the Kottayam Medical College but succumbed to his injuries on Monday evening. He was taken to the hospital on October 4.
Afeel, a student of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Pala was volunteering at the sports event when the incident occurred. A police probe is underway.
The State athletic department also formed a team to examine the incident.
