Idukki : TNG formed a committee with 10 members to regulate and control the concerns of Mullaperiyaar dam. Secretary to Public Works Prabhakar, who represented TN in Supreme court’s committee of 3 members in the matter, is the chairperson. Kerala State government is watching these planning and actions like an infant staring at its wet nurse.

Theni district Collector, Theni RDO, Madhura Water Resource Chief Engineer, Periyar Vaiga Superintendent Engineer, Theni District Police Chief, Theni DFO, Representative of the Fire Force and Periyaar Vaiga Executive Engineer are the members of the committee formed by the TNG. Vaiga executive Engineer Subramanian is in charge of the coordination task of the committee. Subramanian is the Tamil Nadu’s representative in Mullaperyaar Subcommittee.

The water level raised to 142 foot on 16th August. The authorities were forced to open the shutter of the spillway to the maximum. The result was a historical disastrous flood that gobbled The coastal landmass Kerala. Supreme Court has noticed the damage caused to the state and ordered to keep the water level top a maximum of 139 foot. To avoid such a risky wipe out TNG had formed this committee.

The new committee will undertake responsibility and take control on activities, in relation to rain, water flow, water level, spillway shutter opening and closing, to the catchment area of the dam. When the neighboring state takes control Kerala Government seems pretty busy with foreign tour and playing blame game.
