Kottayam: Former Mizoram Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the opening of liquor shops in the state is a violation of lockdown principles. The Central government announced for a complete lockdown in order to curb the spread of coronavirus. It includes social distancing and self hygiene, which has to be strictly followed to contain the disease. When this is breached, the aim of lockdown will not be met, he said.
Kummanam Rajasekharan said that if the liquor shops are opened amid lockdown, it would see a huge rush and will be difficult to follow lockdown restrictions. We have seen such instances in Delhi and other states.
He also urged the government to do some sacrifice when the people are already sacrificing to prevent the spread coronavirus. People are abiding by the rules to avoid crowd in public places. All temples, churches and mosques have been closed. If the government wants to earn income by opening of the liquor shops, then all the preventive measures taken till now will go in vain, he added.
