Thiruvananthapuram: Despite giving relaxations in lockdown norms, there has been no change in the plight of fisheries sector. The workers in the sector allege that in the last four years of CPM rule, there has been only crisis experienced.
Four months before coronavirus outbreak, availability of fishes declined that led to the risk of starvation in the entire coastal belt. As the condition worsened to those who set out for fishing, the fishermen and families had went in search of other jobs to survive.
The announcement of the establishment of Marine Ambulances for the safety of fishermen in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode and the Okhi Disaster Relief Package became only mere word by the government. Rs 3000 crore package in two different budgets also was a mock at the sector.
Workers allege that writing down the debt of fishermen was not done and that the last four years of the Left Front regime only put the fishermen in deep distress.
