Idukki : Agriculture department to help the plantain farmers of Rajakkad Panchayath. Rajakkad in Nedumkandam block, is a major producer of banana. After the flood the farmings sector is dull. Agriculture department is providing the farmers with subsidy and other assistance to reinstate farming.
Plantain is a dominant agriculture in the high range. The farmers had worked hard targeting the Onam season sales, however the flood flushed everything. The agriculture sector was in crisis, is when the agriculture department come up with aids to assist farmers to restore farming.
The agriculture department is offering subsidy of Rs.26500/- per hectare, for plantain cultivation. Rajakkad panchayath has 400 farmers in 300 hectares of land. Rajakkad is the only panchayath where farming has reestablished. Grants are financed through “Ethavaazha krishi vyapana padhathi”.
The farmers foresee a good fortune with the help of agriculture department this time.
