Kannur: Strong protests have erupted after the old age pension of a deceased was duped by Payam panchayat president Ashokan’s wife Swapna, who allegedly is also a relative of Health Minister KK Shailaja.

The BJP has demanded strict action against Swapna and others who stood backed her for the money laundering.

The protest comes after it came to light that the deceased Kannur resident Kausu Narayanan’s old age pension was signed and collected by Swapna. Narayanan had died on March 9.

The BJP has also demanded an investigation to find whether money laundering has happened with other people as well.

Although Iritti Co-Operative Rural Bank suspended Swapna from collection agent post, it is alleged that the move is just to save their face. The BJP has decided to intensify its protests if the police refuse to arrest the culprits and take further action.

Meanwhile, Kannur MP K Sudhakaran alleged that the CPM local leaders has made it a habit of money laundering. Sudhakaran also added that since Swapna is a relative of Minister KK Shailaja, an effective investigation was not undertaken.
