Kochi : The High Court stayed the verdict disqualifies Azhikode MLA KM Shaji, with strict conditions for two weeks. A fortnight time is allotted so that Shaji can file his plea at Supreme Court.
The verdict was on the petition filed by Nikesh Kumar. The petition stood with an argument that, alleged Shaji made communal speeches. On the basis of the trail the court conclude, with the verdict of disqualifying Shaji for 6 years.
During the Assembly election campaign of 2016, it is alleged that a communal campaign was carried out. The action was a violation of the Election Code of Conduct, stated the Court. Justice PD Rajan pronounced the verdict. The court dismissed Nikesh Kumar’s request to declare him as the winner of Azheekode constituency. The Court directed for re-elections in Azheekode constituency.
