Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken over the probe into the deaths of violinist Balabhaskar and his daughter Tejaswini. The government had sought a CBI probe into the case at the request of Balabhaskar’s father. The family had also asked to investigate whether the accused in the gold smuggling case had any links with Balabhaskar’s death.
The case has been registered under Sections 279, 337,338 and 304A of IPC.
The Crime Branch had earlier investigated the 2018 case. The state government issued a notification in last December, handing over the case to the CBI.
Balabhaskar’s father KC Unni had earlier expressed doubts on the former’s managers. Doubts about the death have not yet been dispelled. He had revealed to the media that the gold smuggling case in Thiruvananthapuram, which affected national security under the guise of diplomatic relations, may have links with the death of Balabhaskar.
Balabhaskar and his family had met with an accident on September 25, 2018. Balabhaskar’s friend Kalabhavan Sobi had earlier revealed that Sarith, one of the accused in the gold smuggling case, was at the spot of the accident.
