Ernakulam: The government on Monday morning took over the Jacobite Syrian Cathedral amid strong protests by the followers. The police barged into the church and removed all the believers, priests and metropolitans and arrested them for not cooperating with the government.
The action comes as the deadline given by the High Court was to end on Monday. The Jacobite faction had requested not to take over the church till then.
The district administration will submit a report to the court today, said Ernakulam Sub Collector Snehil Kumar Singh.
