Kozhikode: The food safety department has found that the jaggery brought for distribution through Supplyco for Onam is not edible.The jaggery was seized by the food security officers while it was being packed at Kozhikode’s Koyilandy. Subsequent testing revealed that the jaggery was unfit for human consumption.
The food safety department found that the jaggery brought in to be included in the Onam kit was unfit for human consumption. The packing took place two weeks ago in the auditorium of a private individual at Chemancherry Panchayat’s Thiruvangoor.
The jaggery brought from other states under different brand names were being made into one single brand. The packet did not mention the expiry or date of manufacture of the jaggery. A large difference in weight was also found. After Janam Tv exposed the packing of jaggery, the food safety department sent it for inspection.
Officials said that according to the preliminary report, jaggery was found to be adulterated. In the midst of corruption allegations in the Onam kit across Kerala, the low quality and adulterated food products are being provided.
