Kozhikode: Koduvally Municipal Councillor Karat Faisal was taken into custody by the Customs officials in the wee hours on Thursday in connection with the gold smuggling case.
The Customs preventive wing conducted a raid at his house and took Faisal into custody for further interrogation based on the evidence collected during the raid.
According to sources, Customs revealed that Karat Faisal had invested a huge sum in the gold smuggling. He is found to have a major role in the gold smuggling racket.
It is to be noted that Koduvally is regarded as a major hub of gold smuggling. Although the case centers around 30kg of gold, Faisal has already smuggled 400 kg gold through the diplomatic channel so far.
The probe reached Karat Faisal after interrogating Ramees and Faisal Fareed, the other accused in the gold smuggling case.
