Palakkad: CPM protests in Palakkad Municipality on the day of swearing-in. CPM members came out with provocation on the day of swearing-in by hoisting the national flag in city council.
BJP and Congress members came out after the swearing in ceremony, but CPM workers remained in the hall. Soon after, CPM activists came out protesting with the national flag to which BJP workers responded by Jai Sreeram calls.
Police removed both party members from the location to quell the clashes. Last day, DYFI activists had insulted the national flag during their protest in the Palakkad Municipality by violating all the norms set by the Flag Code.
Widespread protests have erupted in the State against the DYFI act. The DYFI hoisted the national flag upside down on top of the Palakkad Municipal Corporation building. BJP had also lodged a complaint against this.
This time the BJP won a resounding victory in the Palakkad Municipal Corporation. BJP won 28 of the 49 seats, the UDF won 14 seats and the LDF 6 seats while the Welfare Party won one seat. 2 seats were won by UDF rebels.
