Thiruvananthapuram: Devotees who chanted sarana manthras at Sannidhanam were released last night.The pilgims were jailed at Poojappura Central Jail, Thiruvananthapuram. Large number of devotees were gathered outside jail to receive the released detainees. All the 69 devotees got hearty welcome and people outside jail chanted prayers while their release.
Police had arrested all the sixty nine devotees without any provocation. Devotees were standing near Aravana counter as it was raining. Police tried to evacuate them and devotees chanted sarana manthras. Police ordered them to disperse but devotees told that they will stay and pray at Valiya Nadappanthal till the temple closes after harivarasanam and this led to the mass arrest. The devotees were remanded for 14 days. High Court cancelled the remand period and released the pilgrims.
