Thiruvananthapuram : The Government has hidden the real numbers in those killed in Nipah outbreak. Official statistics report says 19 death so far. But in the paper submitted by the Department of Health Secretary and the research team, it is evident that 23 people are affected.
Official reports says that 19 people have been infected and 17 deaths. However, the researchers have revealed that 21 deaths and 23 affected by Nipah. The study report was done by research team comprising Health Secretary Rajiv Sadanandan.
5 people died before detecting the virus. The failure of the Health Department’s surveillance system is evident from this.
Besides health worker Lini the radiologist at Kozhikode medical college is also reported to be dead as infected by Nipah.
The Health Ministry has rejected the report of the research team. By checking the blood samples, 18 were diagnosed with the virus and 16 of them died, the rest of the survived with earlier symptoms.
