Thiruvananthapuram : 23rd International Film Festival begins today. Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the festival this evening by 6.00 pm. Bengali director Buddhadeb Dasgupta is the chief guest of the function. Director and actress Nandita Das and Chalachitra Akademi chairman Kamal will also attend the function.
Chief Minister will present the Lifetime Achievement award to the well-known Iranian film director, producer and screenwriter Majid Majidi. The award comprises of Five lakh rupees and a certificate. Asghar Farhadi’s ‘Everybody knows’ is the inaugural film.
164 films will be exhibited in the festival. IFFK has films from 72 countries of the 6 continents. 14 films in competitive films category including, Arabic director Ahmad Hausa Sally’s ‘Poisonous Roses’, Urdu film maker Praveen Morchhale’s ‘Widow of silence’.
