New Delhi : Changes have been made in the decree of the ban on the protection of the Western Ghats. The changes have been made on the order of ban on 13th November 2013 . ESA which was 59,940 sq/km was reduced to 56,825 sq/km.
Central Government has rejected the request to omit forest area from Western Ghats, by the State Government.
The Kerala government has sent a letter to the Ministry of Environment, six months ago to seek explanation on the forest area and restriction notifications in 2013.
In response to the letter, in 2014 it was made clear that no more concessions can be aided beyond the concessions already provided. With this 123 villages of Kerala will continue under environmentally sensitive regions.
In November 2013, the National Green Tribunal had issued an interim order to 123 villages of Kerala, to follow the restrictions imposed by Kasthuri Rangan samithy.
