Kannur : CM criticized UDF rule for the delay caused in the construction of Kannur International airport. Pinarayi Vijayan said that the construction that began in the year 1996 shouldn’t have taken this long to become a reality. No activities in relation to the airport construction happen in the period of 5 years from 2001 to 2006. No reason or explanation is recorded for the negligence.
The construction of the airport was reinitialized only on 2006 when V S Achudananthan take charge to lead the State. Activities including land acquisition paced in the period.
The land acquisition activities were quickly switched off at that time. Unlike 2001-2006 there was no stop for the construction work of the airport in 2011-2016. A few follow ups were done in the period but the completion of the project remained a never achieved dream. However inauguration was done to convey a fake massage that the construction is completed. Pinarayi Vijayan ridiculed stating that, he did not know what had they inaugurated back then.
At the inauguration time the air craft landed was owned by the Air force which can be landed anywhere, on the other hand people where invited in the name of inauguration. Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that the same airport has inaugurated two and a half years later today, after actually finishing all the unfinished works of the airport.
