Mattannur: Major fire broke out near Kannur International Airport in the wee hours of the last morning. Acres of forest of the rehabilitation area engulfed in flames.The fire in the private land was put out around 11 pm.
Fire force from Mattannur fire station and Iritty fire station reached the spot on time but could not control the blaze. Later fire engine from airport reached and extinguished the spreading fire in the forest area. Locals allege that someone has set the fire in the nearby cashew plantation intentionally.
