New Delhi: On Tuesday, Kerala joined 16 other states to receive the emergency help number ‘112’ for assistance to people in distress. The Central Government initiated program will reach the whole of India by next year.
The emergency number can be used to contact the Police, Fire-force, and Woman Helpline. 108, the number for health service will be added to the new emergency number.
India’s new emergency number is modeled on the national emergency number ‘911’ of the United States. In case of emergency, the call will first reach a centralized hub. Those who have requested help can update the status of their call from ERSS website. ‘112 India’ mobile app is also available to get the service. The app can be downloaded from Google Play Store.
