Ernakulam: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) said that the Pakistan national arrested during the drug bust off the Kerala coast was a carrier. The accused Subair confessed that he smuggled the drugs for a dealer, who is a Pakistan national. The remand report by NCB also stated that Subair was offered a big amount for smuggling the drugs.
The NCB had earlier received information that the drugs seized were from Pakistan. There were 172 bags in the boat. It is reported that Subair had told the probe team the name and details of the middleman of the Haji Salim network. Subair also told NCB that the plan was to deliver the drugs to India and Sri Lanka.
The boat that was travelling towards Lakshadweep was seized off the Kerala coast as part of Operation Samudragupta. The search continues with the assumption that more amount of drugs were present in the mother ship that the smugglers had sunk during the mission. NCB is trying to recover this with the help of GPS system. It is not clear whether the mother ship was sunk in the international ship channel or in the Indian maritime border. The probe team has decided to get the custody of the Pakistan national for detailed interrogation. Meanwhile, the NIA have also started investigation regarding the terror links in the drug smuggling.
