Kozhikode: The management of Kunhali Marakkar School in Kozhikode has duped twenty nine persons by collecting money with the promise of providing them teaching jobs at the school. The management convinced the candidates that there are vacancies for teacher posts at the school. The total amount collected by the school management amounts to Rs.2 crore.
There were only eight vacancies at the Kunhali Marakkar School. However, the authorities exaggerated the number of vacancies by three times and collected money for appointment to these non-existent vacancies.
The scam began in 2012, when the school management began collecting money from candidates by showing them non-existent vacancies. Many candidates gave lakhs of rupees in advance in order to assure the post. However, the candidates realized that they were being duped when their appointments did not materialize.
Many of those who had lost their money in the scam are facing hardships in life now.
Ironically, when the candidates who gave money were waiting for their appointments, the school management made 15 appointments at the school. The candidates who were duped have formed a protest committee and have begun protests against the school authorities. They are demanding that either their money must be given back or they must be appointed as teachers at the school. The candidates warned that they will intensify their protests if their demands are not met.
