Kottayam: Chenappadi near Erumeli, Kottayam, has been experiencing strange, loud explosions from the underground for several days. Concerned locals reported yet another explosion yesterday, which made them more worried about the reasons. Complaints are also being raised that no detailed examination has taken place, even after a week since the initial incident.
A loud explosion was heard again from the underground at 5:30 this morning. This marked the third consecutive day of hearing such loud noises, amplifying the concerns of the local populace. These explosions have been reported over ten times since the initial rumbling and vibrations were noticed last Monday.
An initial inspection of the area was conducted by the Geology Department on Tuesday. In response to the situation, Minister K. Rajan said that experts from the Centre for Earth Science (NCESS) will be sent for further examination. But it didn’t happen yet. The cause of the noise is still unknown. As the rainy season approaches, the relentless explosions and noises continue to provide the locals with sleepless nights.
