Kannur: Two people were arrested for the murder of a lorry driver in front of the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Kannur. Altaf from Kuttyadi, Kozhiode, and Shabeer from Kathiroor were arrested. The police stated that the two accused attacked the lorry driver, Jinto, when he defended a robbery attempt.

Jinto was sleeping in his lorry near Kannur Stadium at the time of the incident. Altaf and Shabeer tried to extort money from Jinto, who was sleeping. When Jinto tried to defend their actions, they stabbed him in the leg. After being stabbed in the leg, he ran towards the commissioner’s office in order to save himself from the accused. But unfortunately, Jinto collapsed and bled to death a hundred metres away from the town police station.

The police learned about it when some of the passersby informed them about it. Then Jinto was taken to the district in the ambulance of the fire force. The postmortem report that came out confirms that the cause of death was a deep leg injury. Kannur Mayor T.O. Mohanan had said that the police should respond to the murder since the incident happened near the district police headquarters, the crime branch office, and the town police station. The accused were nabbed within hours of the incident by the investigation focused on CCTV. Altaf was accused in several criminal cases. Both will be produced in court today.
