Thiruvananthapuram: In the state, so far this month, 1.89 lakh card holders have benefited ration through OTP. Despite a higher influx of consumers on Saturday, the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) system faced an unexpected technical issue, rendering the biometric authentication process ineffective. Consequently, ration distributors were compelled to adopt an alternative approach, relying on One-Time passwords (OTP) sent to registered mobile numbers to facilitate the distribution of rations.
A total of 17.82 lakh people have purchased rations so far this month. Notably, most of the rations were purchased on Saturday. As the second Saturday was a public holiday, yesterday more consumers, including blue and white (non-priority category) card holders also arrived for rations. With this, the EPOS system server malfunctioned, and the machines connected with biometric were also stopped working. This makes halt to the ration distribution for around 2 hours throughout the state. Later, the supply resumes through mobile OTP.
