It is reported that Sujatha (50), a native of Kumaranchira, Pathanamthitta died of leptospirosis. For the last three days she was under treatment at the Kottayam Medical College Hospital.
Sujatha worked as a daily wage laborer under the employment guarantee scheme.
This marks the third death caused by leptospirosis in Pathanamthitta district within a week. With the onset of the monsoon season, dengue and leptospirosis fever have become rampant.
Over the past two weeks, 10 individuals have been diagnosed with leptospirosis, while 80 individuals have been diagnosed with dengue fever in Pathanamthitta district.
Furthermore, there are currently 17 people undergoing treatment for H1N1 flu, with two reported fatalities.
