Thiruvananthapuram: In a devastating incident that unfolded in the early hours of the day, a father was brutally murdered on his daughter’s wedding day in Kallambalam, Thiruvananthapuram. Rajan (62) of Valiyavilakam was the victim of a terrible attack carried out by four people, including his daughter’s ex-friend.

The wedding ceremony of Rajan’s daughter was scheduled to take place at Sivagiri in Varkala at 10:30 am on Wednesday. The family had been engrossed in the preparations for the auspicious occasion, having recently celebrated a reception at their home. Unfortunately, chaos ensued when a group of four individuals, including Vishnu, the bride’s ex-friend, arrived in front of their house and instigated a commotion.

As the disturbance escalated, concerned neighbours gathered in the vicinity and confronted the assailants, who resorted to aggression. Amidst the ensuing altercation, Rajan was struck on the head, sustaining severe injuries. Promptly, he was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite the best efforts of medical professionals, his life could not be saved.

The assailants fled the crime scene but were later apprehended by the Kallambalam police in Varkala. Reports suggest that Vishnu and Rajan’s daughter were previously in a romantic relationship that ended due to certain circumstances. Allegedly, personal animosity resulting from the breakup fuelled the attack. In addition to Rajan, a few other relatives suffered injuries during the assault.

Rajan’s body has been transferred to SN Mission Hospital in Varkala, where it will undergo post-mortem procedures before being moved to the medical college.
