Kasaragod: As the monsoon season sets in, Kerala is witnessing an alarming increase in deaths caused by fever. In a recent unfortunate incident, a woman from Kasaragod, identified as Ashwathi (28) and hailing from Chemnad, lost her life to the illness. She passed away this morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mangalore.
Ashwathi was initially admitted to the hospital last week due to a persistent high fever. Despite her return home, the fever persisted, prompting her to seek further medical attention at the same hospital. Given the severity of her condition, she was subsequently transferred to a private hospital in Mangalore for advanced treatment.
Earlier reports by Janam TV had shed light on the inadequate facilities and shortage of healthcare staff, including doctors and nurses, in state government hospitals. Allegations are widespread that the state health department is not taking proper precautionary measures on contagious diseases.
Distressingly, the state has now recorded a total of 94 fever-related deaths. Within just a month, the number of fever patients has exceeded 2.5 lakh. Every day, approximately 2,000 individuals are flocking to various hospitals across the state seeking treatment for fever-related symptoms.
