The distribution of ration in the state has once again been disrupted as the Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) machines encountered a failure. In several districts, the functioning of EPOS machines failed, causing inconvenience to many individuals who were unable to purchase rations.
According to the food minister’s office, the problem lies with the NIC software, resulting in frequent malfunctions of the EPOS machines. Since the implementation of the EPOS machine system for ration distribution in 2017, these technical failures have become a regular occurrence. As a consequence, people visiting shops to purchase essential food items often face disappointment, either returning home empty-handed or enduring lengthy waiting periods.
Traders have been grappling with the persistent issue of EPOS machine malfunctions. Yesterday, the distribution of ration was halted in Chalakudy and nearby areas due to a server failure. Although a few ration shops have resorted to alternative methods such as distributing rations via OTP (One-Time Password), a majority of people still endure long waits at the shops only to leave without obtaining their allocated rations. The prolonged unresolved server issues further exacerbate the distress of beneficiaries.
Despite assurances from authorities that the glitches have been addressed after months of effort, ration traders assert that the servers remain down at the end of each month.
