Kollam: A distressing incident occurred at Kollam Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, where a 56-year-old man faced cruelty while seeking treatment for severe breathing problems. It is reported that, V Radhakrishnan, a native of Neduvathoor, Kurumbalurkurumbalur, tragically met his end in this unfortunate incident.
On Saturday morning, Radhakrishnan was admitted to Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital and received an injection. However, despite being shifted to the ward, he was not provided with a bed. Instead, the hospital staff instructed him to proceed to the second floor, without providing a wheelchair or stretcher.
Struggling with his critical condition, the patient collapsed while using the staircase to reach the second floor and tragically passed away. Shockingly, the ramp was reportedly not opened even when his dead body was being brought down. Eventually, with the assistance of bystanders, the body was carried down.
Allegations have also been raised against the hospital regarding their lack of response when staff and security assistance was requested. Following the incident, the patient’s relatives filed a complaint with the health department authorities and the police.
This distressing incident comes less than a month after the tragic murder of young doctor Vandana Das at Kollam’s Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital, further highlighting concerns about alleged mistreatment by hospital employees towards patients. At the same time, there is another allegation that there is a lack of staff and other facilities due to the increasing number of patients.
