London: A report said that Northampton Crown Court sentenced Keralite Saju Chelevalan (52) to a minimum of forty years in imprisonment for killing his wife Anju Ashok and their children Jeeva (6) and Jhanvi (4).
The murders that took place on December 15, 2022 had shocked the Malayalee community and attracted widespread publicity. It is believed that Saju committed the horrific crimes out of suspicion that his wife was having an affair with someone else.
The report said that Saju strangulated his wife with a dressing gown. The main evidence in the case was a 90-miniute-long audio recording on Saju’s mobile phone. The disturbing sounds of his children pleading with their father not to kill their mother could be heard vividly.
The report further said that while the recording was being played, Saju broke down and cried uncontrollably.
Saju Chelevalan is a native of Kollam while his wife Anju hailed from Kottayam district and was working as an NHS nurse. It is reported that she had died on the spot while the children were pronounced dead at the hospital.
