Thiruvananthapuram: The government of Kerala has banned government employees from taking up other works for money during their free time. There have been widespread complaints that government employees are profiting by giving tuition classes and running coaching centers.
According to the revised rules, if any government employee is caught for profiting from work other than government service, then action will be taken against the employee after departmental investigation.
In 2020, the administrative reform department had issued a circular in this regard. Now the government has given legal approval to this circular.
In an investigation by the Vigilance department, it was found that government employees were providing private tuition classes for a fixed remuneration. The Vigilance Director had also received numerous complaints regarding this.
The Vigilance also conducted investigations based at district centers of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Trissur, Palakkad, and Kozhikode.
In the investigation it was found out that teachers and KSRTC conductors were engaged in giving tuition classes.
