Kozhikode: In response to a distressing incident of ragging, the MES College of Arts and Sciences in Chathamangalam has taken decisive action by suspending six students involved. The decision was made after a joint meeting held by the College council and anti-ragging cell, according to reports.
The victim is Mohammed Midhulaj from Pullalloor, a second-year degree student at the college. He was subjected to a horrifying ordeal at the hands of a gang consisting of more than 20 students. The gang verbally abused him on Saturday and went on to physically assault him over matters related to his dress and hairstyle, resulting in severe injuries to his face and back, reports said.
“My son was brutally ragged by his college mates,” Midhulaj’s father, Mohammed, told the media. “His eyes are swollen, and he has some problems seeing; the nasal bone is also damaged,” he said.
According to reports, two other students from the same college were also assaulted by the gang. They have sustained minor injuries.
In response to the gravity of the situation, the Kunnamangalam Police have registered a case under Section 308, citing an attempt to commit culpable homicide. Additionally, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter thoroughly. The college authorities have also reported the incident to the University of Calicut.
