Renowned lyricist Sreekumaran Thambi reacted against Speaker Shamseer, who insulted Lord Ganesha. He wrote on Facebook that science and myths are mixed not only in Hinduism but in all religions. He noted that Hinduism is not a religion founded by an individual like Islam or Christianity and Ganesha is a symbol of Omkar, which is why when one comes to a temple, he bows to Ganesha first. It is remarkable to note that Sreekumaran Thampi’s Facebook post has come at a time when Hindu organizations have come forward against Shamseer on the issue of insulting Lord Ganesha. (Omkar is the sound of the sacred syllable)
Sreekumaran Thampi’s note:
I would like to quote what my friend Rasool Pookkutty said before receiving the Oscar for best sound mixing. He said,
“I come from the land of Omkar”
Indian culture says that the universe was created from sound and Physics says that the universe came into being from a big bang, (BIG BANG THEORY). Lord Ganesha is the symbol of Omkar (the first point of origin of sound). That is why it is said that whichever temple we go to, we should first salute Lord Ganesha. Science and myths are not mixed in Hinduism alone, but it has happened in all religions. Hinduism is not a religion founded by one person like Islam or Christianity.
The way of life of a set of cultured people living on the banks of the Indus became a religion. I have memorized not only the Bhagavad Gita but also the Bible and the Quran. That is why I could write ‘Kaalvariyil poothulanja raktapushpame…'(‘കാൽവരിയിൽ പൂത്തുലഞ്ഞ രക്തപുഷ്പമേ …’) and ‘Pachayaam maraththil polum thee nirakkum Allahu…’, (‘ പച്ചയാം മരത്തിൽ പോലും തീ നിറയ്ക്കും അല്ലാഹു ‘)
