New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has officially announced that the Assembly by-election for Kottayam’s Puthuppally constituency is scheduled to take place on September 5.
The bypoll was necessitated due to the vacancy that arose following the demise of Congress veteran Oommen Chandy. Candidates can file their nominations till August 17. The counting of votes will take place on September 8.
The model code of conduct shall come into force with immediate effect in the district in which the whole or any part of the Assembly constituency going for election is included, subject to partial modifications.
The EC has decided to hold bypolls to fill vacancies in seven Assembly constituencies of six states including Kerala namely Jharkhand, Tripura, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh.
