Thiruvananthapuram: Following the fines imposed on conductors due to passengers travelling without tickets, both the Vehicle Supervisor and the Station Master at the Vizhinjam depot were also subjected to penalties. A substantial fine of over 18,000 rupees each has been imposed on both the Vehicle Supervisor and the Station Master due to their failure to properly manage vehicle servicing.
However, there is a growing grievance that the authorities are turning a blind eye to the staffing shortage, thereby unilaterally imposing penalties on the responsible officials. The Vizhinjam Depot has been grappling with vacancies in conductor and driver positions due to transfers, promotions, and retirements. Employees further assert that the government has not put forth any concrete plans to address these vacancies.
The protest opposes the management’s disciplinary actions, which have been imposed without supplying essential staff and facilities at the district’s primary depot, responsible for significant daily collections.
