Pathanamthitta: The eagerly awaited Aranmula Uthratathi Water Festival is set to grace the Aranmula Temple on September 2, with the event kicking off around 1 p.m. The highlight of the festival is the spirited competition among Palliyodams (Snake boats). Among the 49 palliyodam participating this year, catogarising them in batches A and B, the first to cross the finish line in the traditional rowing style will clinch the title.
The festival’s schedule features semi-finals and finals for both batch A and batch B, ensuring an exhilarating spectacle for attendees. To preserve Aranmula’s rich heritage and uniqueness, this year’s water festival is being held under strict guidelines, including the exclusion of external clubbers and group rowers. Participation in the Uthratathi boat race remains exclusive to skilled rowers hailing from the Palliyodam region and its immediate vicinity. Ahead of the festivities, a mandatory submission of participants’ details, including ID and photographs, to the Palliyodam Seva Sangh office is required by August 25th.
Consent forms, undersigned by Palliyodam representatives such as the president, secretary, and captain, affirming their involvement in the water festival, further ensure the event’s authenticity. Only those Palliyodams granted permission will be part of the enthralling water procession and the riveting boat race.
