Kozhikode: In a pioneering stride towards fostering innovation in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, an advanced Electric Vehicle Research Laboratory is set to take shape at the Kozhikode National Institute of Technology (NIT). In a collaborative endeavour, NIT has joined hands with Tata Elxsi through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to realise this ambitious vision. With an estimated budget of ₹1 crore allocated for the project, Tata Elxsi has generously contributed ₹75 lakh, while NIT has dedicated ₹25 lakh towards its realisation.
The laboratory is poised to serve as a transformative platform, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to spearhead groundbreaking advancements in the realm of electric vehicles. This landmark initiative marks a significant milestone, as it signifies the establishment of Kerala’s first-ever electric vehicle laboratory within a higher education institution, underscoring the region’s commitment to technological progress and sustainable mobility.
The comprehensive plan entails swift execution, with the project anticipated to be fully operational within a span of one year. Key objectives underpinning this endeavour encompass the exploration of innovative EV-related products, the cultivation of cutting-edge competencies in the new generation, and the streamlined and efficient detection of vehicle anomalies.
This collaborative effort between NIT and Tata Elxsi holds the promise of shaping the future landscape of electric vehicle manufacturing, harnessing the potential of education, research, and industry partnerships to drive sustainable mobility solutions forward.
