Thiruvananthapuram: In a significant verdict, the additional sessions court in Thiruvananthapuram handed down life imprisonment to two individuals found guilty in the murder case of former radio jockey Rajesh. The court’s decision came on Friday, accompanied by a fine of Rs 3 lakh imposed on the convicted parties.

The court’s verdict found the second accused, Muhammed Salih, and the third accused, Appunni, guilty in the murder case of 34-year-old Rajesh. Meanwhile, the court acquitted accused numbers 4 to 12 of all charges. Notably, the whereabouts of the first accused, Abdul Sathar, remain unknown. Sathar, an NRI businessman from Ochira, allegedly orchestrated the contract to eliminate Rajesh due to suspicions regarding an affair between the radio jockey and Sathar’s spouse.

The accused were charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 201 (destruction of evidence), 449 (criminal trespassing), 326 (grievous hurt), and 302 (murder).

Rajesh, the son of Radhakrishna Kurup and Vasantha Kumari of Asha Nivas, Padinjattela, Madavoor in the Thiruvananthapuram district, met his tragic end at 2:30 am on March 27, 2018, within his recording studio at Madavoor Junction. The incident also left his friend Kuttan (50) of Vellalloor injured, sustaining wounds to his shoulder and arm.

The court’s decision exonerated several individuals from the case, including K Tansir of Karunagappally, Sanu Santhosh of Kureepuzha, A Yaseen of Ochira, S Swathy Santhosh alias Sphadikam of Kundara, J Aby John of Mulamana, Kundara, and Sumith of Madichuvadu. Sumith, who is married to the sister of the third accused, Appunni, along with Sumith’s wife Bhagyasree, Sybella Bonnie of Vennala, Ernakulam (who was Appunni’s lover), and Shijina Shihab of Varkala (the paramour of the first accused, Sathar), were also among those acquitted by the court.
