Thiruvananthapuram: Shibina Ramla has carved her name in history as the first Muslim woman to step onto the stage of temple art with her professional debut. Hailing from Thiruvananthapuram’s Sreekaryam, Shibina Ramla made her debut in Nangyarkooth. With grace and skill, Ramla portrayed the timeless narrative of ‘Sreekrishna Leela’, captivating the audience for an hour at Margi Natyagriham. Adorned in specially crafted ‘padiyaranjanam’ and ‘kireedam’ ornaments, she embodied the essence of the art.
Balancing her role as an HR associate in Bengaluru, Shibina’s dedication extends to mastering the art of Mohiniyattam as well. Her journey into Nangyarkooth was guided by Margi Usha, an accomplished artist in this realm, through online training sessions that took place during the quietude of the night, amidst the hustle of her professional commitments. A month prior to her landmark debut, Shibina Ramla dedicated herself to preparations at Valiyashala Margi Kaoodiyatta Vidyalayam, under the expert tutelage of Guru Usha.
Shattering stereotypes, Ramla passionately emphasises that art transcends the boundaries of caste and religion. Demonstrating her belief, she has ventured into temples that warmly welcome people from diverse religious backgrounds. Shibina’s aspiration is to present Nangyarkooth performances within temple premises.
