Indecent view on Nationalism; SFI raises anti-national board at Victoria College in Palakkad

Palakkad: A recent incident at Victoria College, Palakkad, has stirred controversy as an anti-national board was erected on the premises. The contents of the board have sparked criticism for being disrespectful to the sentiment of national consciousness. The lines on the board explicitly reject the concept of national identity, disregard borders, and assert a broader claim as the inheritors of the entire planet. This provocative board, which denounces national consciousness, gained attention after being shared on social media platforms.

The board in question was initially set up as part of a welcome initiative for incoming students. However, following the college principal’s recommendation, all student organisations cooperated in removing such boards. Notably, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) reinstalled these boards, including one that holds disrespectful language directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This is not the first instance of anti-national slogans being associated with boards in SFI-affiliated institutions. A history of similar incidents involving SFI has been observed, including the creation of a mock gravestone for a head teacher at Victoria College seven years ago, which ignited significant controversy at the time. The repeated occurrences of these incidents suggest a pattern of anti-national activities under the guise of freedom of expression by the SFI.
