Kozhikode: A woman was arrested after attempting to smuggle gold through Karipur International Airport. The intelligence wing of Air Customs successfully seized gold worth Rs 60 lakh. A total of 1,112 grammes of gold were discovered. In connection with the incident, customs officials arrested Shamla Abdulkarim, a resident of Vellayoor.
Shamla Abdulkarim arrived at Karipur International Airport on the SG 42 flight operated by SpiceJet from Jeddah. She was apprehended while attempting to smuggle gold in her underwear. During the inspection, a total of 973.880 grammes of gold were extracted from the original 1,112 grammes of gold inclusions. The woman’s attempt to smuggle gold was estimated to be worth approximately Rs 60 lakh. Customs authorities have initiated a complete investigation into the incident.
