Ernakulam: In a significant ruling, the Kerala High Court has issued directives to the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) regarding the timely disbursement of salaries to its employees. The court’s order stipulates that KSRTC must ensure the payment of salaries by the 10th day of every month. Furthermore, it has emphasised that the state government should extend necessary assistance to the KSRTC and not withhold support.
The court’s ruling came in response to pleas submitted by KSRTC employees who sought assurances of regular salary payments. While addressing the employees’ concerns, the court firmly asserted that it could not intervene in demands for the government to take over KSRTC’s financial liabilities. Additionally, it clarified that the proposal to convert KSRTC into a government department could not be accepted.
This decisive move by the High Court aims to alleviate the financial uncertainties faced by KSRTC employees and ensure that their salaries are provided in a timely and consistent manner. The order underscores the importance of regular and dependable compensation for the workforce.
Despite the ongoing salary crisis, KSRTC is slated to hand over 60 newly acquired electric buses to SWIFT on Saturday. These buses, procured for city services under the Smart City project of Thiruvananthapuram Municipality, signify a positive development amidst the financial challenges facing the corporation.
The formal inauguration and flag-off ceremony for the transfer of these new electric buses are scheduled to take place on Saturday evening at the Govt Model Boys Higher Secondary School ground. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is expected to preside over the event, symbolising the government’s commitment to enhancing public transportation and environmental sustainability.
