Thiruvananthapuram: In a recent incident, a 73-year-old man named Sasidharan was arrested for his involvement in the unlawful sale of arrack from his residence during the festive period of Onam. The arrest was executed at the residence in Koonthalloor. Law enforcement officials conducted a search operation, leading to the seizure of significant quantities of contraband materials. Notably, 4.5 litres of inferior-quality alcohol, 20 litres of distillation waste, and 75 litres of illicit liquor were confiscated from Sasidharan’s premises. Moreover, the Chirayinkeezhu police successfully recovered equipment used for distillation and the subsequent illegal sale of arrack.
The confiscated liquor is scheduled to be presented as evidence in court today, underscoring the swift response of law enforcement in addressing this illegal activity. It is noteworthy that Sasidharan faced a similar situation two years ago when excise-related items were also seized from his residence. Acting on confidential information, authorities promptly visited his premises and conducted a thorough inspection, leading to his arrest.
The apprehension of the accused was carried out by a dedicated team led by Chirayinkeezhu Sub-Inspector Kannan K, with the support of Sub-Inspectors Sumesh Lal, Anoop ML, Arun Kumar KR, Manohar G, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sajeesh and Shajeer. Authorities have reported that Sasidharan’s illicit intention was to capitalise on the occasion of Onam by engaging in the illegal sale of alcohol.
