Ernakulam: Shajan Scaria, the owner and editor of the digital platform ‘Marunadan Malayali,’ has been apprehended by Ernakulam police. He was detained by the Thirikkakkara police, who subsequently registered his arrest. The arrest follows a complaint accusing him of fabricating a false BSNL bill. This action was taken after he underwent questioning in Nilambur.
The court mandated Shajan to appear in an inquiry today related to allegations of fomenting religious animosity. The court specifically instructed him to present himself before the Nilambur Station House Officer (SHO) in the morning. Notably, the High Court cautioned that his anticipatory bail would be revoked if he failed to comply. Shajan was initially summoned to appear on the 17th of this month.
The police had previously filed a case against Shajan Scaria based on a formal complaint by Scaria, who chairs the Nilambur Municipality Standing Committee. The court had earlier reprimanded Shajan Scaria for evading interrogation procedures in the case. Justice K Babu criticised Shajan Scaria’s disregard for the court, condemning his conduct as irresponsible and disrespectful.
Shajan Scaria and his online news channel ‘Marunadan Malayali’ are currently grappling with a series of accusations and legal challenges instigated by the government. These actions stem from Scaria’s bold critiques directed at the ruling party and his fearless approach to uncovering the illegal activities of the corporate leaders, business men, land mafias, drug mafias, bureaucrats, political leaders and terrorist groups whose works are deep rooted in Kerala society.
