Palakkad: In a significant turn of events, action is being initiated against officials involved in the unfortunate incident of the arrest of an 84-year-old woman who resorted to a disguise to evade the authorities due to alleged police failure. The incident, which took place years ago, has now led to a comprehensive review and recommendations for action against those responsible for the lapse.

The incident revolves around the arrest of Kunisherry native Bharatiyamma, a senior citizen who felt compelled to disguise her as a result of what is perceived as a failure on the part of the police. A comprehensive report detailing the incident has been meticulously prepared and submitted to the District Police Chief.

According to the police investigation report, Bharatiyamma’s mental distress and hardships were brought to light. The incident in question dates back to 1998, a year marked by the arrest of Bhartiyamma amidst the case’s intricacies. The complexities of the case deepened as the actual accused, who had secured bail, tragically met his demise by drowning.

Forced to fight her legal battle for four arduous years, Bharatiyamma eventually managed to prove her innocence in the case. The gravity of the situation and the toll it took on the elderly woman prompted her to seek redress. Taking her concerns to heart, the action against the officials was initiated based on Bharathiaymma’s complaint to the Chief Minister, paving the way for accountability and potential reform within the police system.

In an encouraging development, Bharatiyamma’s lawyer confirmed receiving written information about the action taken against the officials involved. This move signifies a significant step towards addressing past wrongs and acknowledging the distress faced by Bharatiyamma due to her unwarranted arrest.
