Thiruvananthapuram: As the state grapples with an ongoing wave of contagious fever, apprehensions heighten over the unabated spread of the disease even before the arrival of the monsoon season. Alarming reports reveal that individuals who had previously recovered from the fever are falling ill once again, intensifying worries about the effectiveness of containment efforts.
Despite the conclusion of the rainy season, a surge of infectious fever continues to grip the region. 255 patients sought medical treatment for dengue fever at government hospitals in a single day. This year, the state witnessed an early and concerning outbreak of infectious fever prior to the monsoon onset. Unfortunately, the efforts to curb the epidemic have yet to yield the desired results, causing mounting concern among authorities and citizens alike.
Dengue fever remains a prominent concern, with a reported 255 new cases and 74 diagnoses documented in a recent day alone. Additionally, a worrying development has emerged: individuals who had recovered from the fever are experiencing relapses, raising questions about the virus’s persistence and the immunity conferred by previous infections. The sustained propagation of infectious diseases beyond a certain point underscores the urgency of effective containment measures.
Health professionals have identified the emergence of new symptoms resembling allergies among fever patients, further complicating the diagnostic process. The symptoms, which include body aches, headaches, and allergic reactions, are causing heightened anxiety within the medical community.
In response to the alarming situation, Health Minister Veena George, similar to actions taken in 2017, has announced the initiation of a specialised study focused on understanding the factors contributing to fever-related fatalities. Furthermore, plans to establish an expert committee aimed at investigating the escalating rate of fever-related deaths, particularly among youth, were declared. Regrettably, despite the passage of months, concrete steps to form this committee have yet to materialise.
