Director Vinayan has once again emphasised his demand for Ranjith’s resignation from his position as chairman of the film academy. This call was communicated through a Facebook post in response to Ranjith’s dismissal of the case filed against him in court as baseless.
Vinayan stated that he refrained from pursuing the matter legally due to its potential ramifications for others. He further expressed his belief that having a tainted academy chairman preside over a film festival is not in line with ethical principles. Vinayan highlighted his disappointment in the lack of action taken by the concerned minister, despite his complaints.
Vinayan’s post read, “In light of the recent revelations made by jury members themselves, confirming the Chairman’s unwarranted influence in this year’s film awards decisions, our country witnessed significant debate. I maintained then and reiterate now that resigning from the chairmanship would be a dignified course of action in the face of evident wrongdoing, be it ethically or legally. I refrained from legal action due to the explosive impact it could have on the academy, supported by credible evidence, including video clips.”
The director went on to reveal that numerous individuals within the film industry reached out to him, claiming that Mr. Ranjith had interfered in award decisions in the past, even allegedly securing awards for his favourites. While Vinayan remained sceptical of these claims without substantial proof, he emphasised that the current situation offers strong evidence of such interference.
Vinayan concluded by asserting that the role of the Film Academy Chairman is not a platform for settling personal conflicts or grievances. He expressed his stance that, regardless of other actions taken, it would be inappropriate for the chairman to continue participating in award ceremonies and film festivals in the future.
