Ernakulam: As the Onam festivities paint the town with vibrant colours, Kochi’s Lulu Mall has etched its name into the annals of world records. A breathtaking hanging pookalam, elegantly crafted for visitors, has captured global attention and earned Lulu Mall a coveted spot in the World Records Union. The awe-inspiring creation adorns the central atrium of the mall, showcasing a mesmerising cascade of flowers in celebration of the traditional Onam festival.
This remarkable hanging flower installation, boasting a diameter of 30 feet and a weight of 450 kg, adds a dash of enchantment to the mall’s ambiance. Crafted from artificial flowers, the intricate piece stands as a testament to creativity and innovation, combining the essence of tradition with contemporary design.
The construction of this ethereal masterpiece spanned eight days, thanks to the dedicated efforts of over 35 individuals who painstakingly brought the concept to life. Employing polyfoam and vinyl prints on GI pipes, the structure was meticulously fashioned before being suspended using four robust ropes. The enchanting arrangement was hung from three 25-metre-long iron chains, lending an air of elegance to the mall’s central atrium. The hanging pookalam is adorned with a captivating Kathakali form beneath and the emblematic Onamthappan above, heightening the allure of the floral spectacle.
Lulu Mall’s achievement was sealed with the recognition of the World Records Union, which awarded the mall the prestigious title of the “largest hanging flower garden arranged in a single venue. Representatives of the World Records Union lauded the composition for beautifully capturing the essence of Onam celebration, further enhancing the global recognition of the event. In a grand ceremony held at Lulu Mall, Christopher Taylor, a representative of the World Records Union, presented a certificate and medal to Rajith Radhakrishnan, COO of Lulu Group India, acknowledging the mall’s exceptional achievement.
The responsibility for crafting this remarkable hanging pookalam rested with Kochi Lulu Events, under the guidance of Art Director Mahesh M. Narayanan. Officials from the World Records Union commended the Lulu Events team for their meticulous planning, praising their dedication in orchestrating an event that not only captured the essence of Onam but also left a lasting impression on all who beheld its splendour.
