Thiruvananthapuram: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has issued a warning to the public regarding the proliferation of fake websites where fines can be paid for traffic violations. The department has reported numerous instances of fraudulent activities in this domain and is urging citizens to exercise caution when making online payments related to traffic offences and other motor vehicle services.
MVD officials have raised concerns about the increasing number of complaints they have received concerning these scams. The primary modus operandi of the fraudsters involves creating counterfeit websites that closely resemble the legitimate platform for paying traffic violation fines. Furthermore, individuals are at risk of falling victim to scams while making payments for services related to driving licences and other motor vehicle-related transactions.
In an effort to safeguard the public from falling prey to these fraudulent activities, the MVD issued a warning through a Facebook post, drawing attention to the seriousness of the issue.
The department has cautioned individuals against using websites with similar names to those of the official MVD website. Currently, deceptive websites with similar-sounding names are emerging, targeting unsuspecting users seeking to apply online for various motor vehicle-related services and pay fines for traffic violations, such as the E-challan system.
To ensure the safety of their financial transactions and personal information, the MVD advises the public to make payments for traffic violation fines exclusively through the official and widely recognised platform, PARIVAHAN SEWA, or through the link’ Motor Vehicles Department ‘. Individuals are also encouraged to scan the QR code available on the official challan notice when making payments.
