Ernakulam: The police are set to submit an extensive charge sheet today in the case concerning the tragic death of a five-year-old child in Aluva. With 800 pages, the charge sheet will be presented at the POCSO court in Ernakulam. The prime accused, Asfaq, has been slapped with more than 10 IPC sections as part of the charges.
Remarkably, this crucial legal document comes 34 days after the incident that resulted in the loss of the innocent girl’s life. The comprehensive charge sheet encompasses charges of murder, rape, and evidence destruction, shedding light on the severity and heinous nature of the crime. Astoundingly, a total of 99 witnesses have been listed, providing crucial testimony to aid the prosecution’s case. Additionally, the charge sheet boasts a substantial collection of evidence, totaling 62 pieces, further strengthening the case against the accused.
Evidently, the charge sheet unequivocally identifies Asfaq as the sole perpetrator of this gruesome act. SP Vivek Kumar has made a firm commitment to expediting the trial process, expressing his intention to file an application in court to ensure the trial concludes within 90 days. This proactive step aims to deliver timely justice and assuage the concerns of the grieving family and the community at large.
The incident unfolded on July 28 when the accused committed the horrific act of sexually assaulting and subsequently killing the five-year-old child. The girl’s lifeless body was tragically discovered in a dumpster near Aluva Market. Further investigation revealed that Asfaq had a previous conviction in a similar POCSO case, indicative of a deeply disturbing pattern.
